Review: The Cat Empire – Live on Earth (my #1 album of 2009!)

When I saw The Cat Empire, it was the most impressive and incredible performance I have ever experienced, and I was fucking thrilled when I found out they had a live album. They are a different band live from in the studio, and they’re just on a different league.
It’s not the same as actually being at a concert, but the memories all come back when listening. The vocals and the improvisation are what makes this band from great to fucking incredible. No one could dislike The Cat Empire’s live performances. I’ve never seen anything like it and most likely never will again (unless I see them again, of course).
This album contains a whole 2 discs…exciting!! We’re thrown right into the party mood with Fishes, which is nothing but sheer fun, and although not all tracks that follow are as exciting, the improvisation keeps you fascinated the whole way through. We have some greatly talented musicians here, and experiencing their talent is a joy. I really can’t say anything more than this. I could go through every track, telling you how impressive it is and why it is so much better than the studio version, but I do not have the will or the time for such a feat. Massively impressive record. Anyone wishing to check out the band should go for this.
