Review: Bloodhound Gang – Hooray for Boobies

I hate to admit it, but this is a really catchy album. I’m not normally very big on the whole “comedy rock” genre, because mostly it’s just not funny…and this isn’t particularly funny either, but the music itself is what gets me. It has great variation and keeps you entertained. The vocal interludes bother me, because the band seem to have added them in the thought that they’re funny (which they’re not at all)…but I’m going to look past them.
I remember when I was about 11 or so listening to That Bad Touch on the radio all the time. I didn’t know WTF it was about, but I enjoyed it greatly. It’s funny that it took me until my early 20s before I actually gave the band that created it a listen. That Bad Touch isn’t my favorite track on the record…I’d give that award to I Hope You Die, however.
From listening to this and enjoying it, I don’t feel inspired to listen to the band’s other records. I listened to Use Your Fingers before and it was, well, shit. Tuneless music made worse by terrible humour. This release owes a lot to being catchy and nothing to the “humour”. I guess they just got lucky with it.
