The Music’s Strength in Numbers

Leeds-bases indie rock band The Music released their third album, Strength in Numbers, in 2008. Starting off with the lead single of the same name, followed by second single the Spike. Drugs has a massive, stadium sound while other highlights include The Left Side, Get Through It and Vision.
The best song on the album and indeed the best song I have heard from a UK band in years is album closer Inconceivable Odds which stands at around 13 minutes long. An ambient acoustic opening followed by the hugest, layered sound you’ll hear on the east side of the Atlantic brings the album to an end.
The Spike only reached number 114 on the UK singles chart. To me this is the new way in which Indie music should work. The album did well, the band has a large following and sound brilliant at UK festivals. Although label Polydor continues to promote chart-topping acts in the UK i feel that the new face of Indie music has been found in The Music.
