Bruce Springsteen – Magic

Bruce Springsteen released Magic in 2007, an album eagerly awaited by fans and critics alike. It was his first outing with the E-Street Band since 2002’s The Rising, and easily as good.

The first single, Radio Nowhere, has as much power, haste, and meaning as the Rising. Magic though, is a lot more “impatient” according to Springsteen, who said in an interview with Rolling Stone that the band can certainly feel that they aren’t getting any younger. The songs have not suffered though, and it doesn’t seem that any less time has been taken to write them.

Standout songs are the first two and the last two songs. You’ll Be Comin’ Down will not disappoint the Boss’ old fans, who will notice like I did, from the start, that this album is a satisfying return to his signature melodic song-writing. Long Walk Home will soon, I am sure, be a fan favourite and one that the E Street Band will love to play live. The closing track, Devil’s Arcade, is an atmospheric, moody, piece, one that it is easy to get lost in.

This is an album that will please any fans of the Boss and the E Street Band. Fans of the Rising will not be disappointed.
