a Tribute to Casey Kasem

Last Saturday marked the final broadcast of the top fourty count down for Casey Kasem. His 39-year career marks a legacy of bringing trivia, information,
dedications and stories to the fans who listened to him each week.
 
My first memories of the count down top 40 were listening to his slightly scratchy but soothing voice every Sunday morning. He talked me through the mountain
of dirty dishes and the laundry pile that was my normal routine during my teen years. When I had one of the many crushes for a boy at school, I would sit and compose dedications I would never send pining away for the unrequited lost loves. When I was tired from a sleepless night with a teething baby, Casey Kasem kept me company during my morning coffee and my attempts to wake myself up.

His 39 year career mostly at the helm of the american top 40 countdown spanned my generation and that of my children. His breezy format is the style of successful DJ’s today, and his contribution will live on in the top 40 show and also in the country count downshow which is a spin off from the original pop version.

This Sunday, I will sit and have a cup of coffee and toast my memories as a tribute to the best pop show that ever was!
